Artist Veronica Davies is passionate about portraiture, life drawing and imagination. Her paintings capture a moment in time and create an emotional connection with the viewer.
Veronica has exhibited her work throughout the lower mainland British Columbia; in group shows, juried shows and commercial galleries. Recently, Veronica received an Honourable Mention in the South Delta Artist’s Guild Annual Oil and Water Show, was featured on Go West Coast TV, and was selected to paint and exhibit in Pop-Up Town, an initiative to recognize arts in the City of White Rock. She is honoured to have been accepted as a Signature (AFCA) Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and is a Member of the South Surrey White Rock Arts Society. Veronica has demonstrated her approach to portrait painting at Opus Art Supplies and the South Surrey White Rock Art Society, as well as presented at the Semiahmoo Arts Annual General Meeting.
Veronica grew up in Summerland, British Columbia and attended Okanagan University College for first year Fine Art, then received a Certificate in Graphic Design at Vancouver Career College. She currently lives in South Surrey and continues her fine art education through workshops and mentorships, with artists including Kristy Gordon, Kerry Dunn, David Goatley, Shana Levenson and David Kassan.
Combining modern themes with traditional techniques, Veronica explores what her subjects like about themselves and expresses it on the canvas with joy.
Artist Statement
Drawing inspiration from old masters and the resurgence of contemporary realism, I work to capture my subjects’ personality and express their own favourite attributes. Even as a child I was fascinated with faces, always paying special attention to bring out the eyes. Working in oil, I use soft and hard edges to create life and form, inviting the viewer to make a personal connection in their interpretation. I enjoy the juxtaposition of abstraction and realism as a way to increase the dynamic emotions of both subject and viewer. It is my greatest joy to represent the beauty of humanity and to breathe life onto a canvas.
